Instagram Wants To Take It Back To The Beginning

Instagram tweeted this cryptic message Tuesday morning.

A cool Easter egg feature to help celebrate Instagram’s 10th birthday is allowing users to change the icon on their cell phone’s home screen to any previous iteration of Instagram’s logo or to something not-yet-seen before.

It’s pretty remarkable how much it has changed but when iOS flattened a lot of their icons several years back, Instagram had to keep up. You might call these icons throwbacks / classics / vintage, etc., but we know it’s okay to bring back the OG’s, like the famous Polaroids.

Want to partake while it’s available?

It’s so easy that anyone can do it (it’s still rolling out, so be sure to keep checking!

How To Do It:

  1. Open up the Instagram app on your phone
  2. Go to the hamburger (the three lines on the top right of the app)
  3. Click on settings
  4. Drag the screen down (you’ll see dots a la Pac-Man)
  5. Be part of a confetti party
  6. Choose your icon
  7. You might need to restart your phone to see the icon

Here’s a step-by-step in photos

Here it is in video fashion.

They’ve also allowed users to download some IG Stories from the previous three years and save them as a highlight!

Could this be just for their birthday month or a permanent thing? Only time will tell.
